Lesbian Custody, 2025, 18 mins, co-directed with M. Francis Skoniezcny

A video essay about the personal and political context of the landmark lesbian documentary In the Best Interests of the Children (1977) about lesbian mothers fighting to regain custody of their children in the 1970s. As a nearly forgotten period of LGBTQ+ history, the film brings together filmmaker Frances Reid (award winning film director and cinematographer) and her “step-daughter” Julie Stevens to look through the film’s archives and put this history in dialogue with the present.
